Self Portrait, 36"x36", graphite on paper, 2011
My innate desire to paint portraits was informed by 20 years of work in Anatomic Pathology. I investigate and comment on human emotion and beauty through my paintings. I recently completed a portrait series that depicts human moments in the domestic lives of contemporary LGBTQ parents with their children My most recent works are portraits of men that depict the imagery I see when reading Walt Whitman’s poems that celebrate the beauty of men. By experimenting with mixed media, I aim to dissect human emotion and expose internal beauty in a way that goes beyond photographic imagery.
